Maryanna Mason, NCC

My ideal client would be a motivated, open-minded, flexible, and consistent adult. They may be facing issues with depression, various anxiety disorders, PTSD, or family and parenting concerns. They may lack self-confidence or struggle with putting proper boundaries in place, whether that be with friends/family, a significant other, their employer, or even with themselves. They may need psychological evaluations, referrals for medication, case management, psychoeducation, and overall management of their mental health. I also have an interest in working with clients who are facing mental health issues directly or indirectly affected by the cultural and socioeconomic aspects of living in rural WV.

I believe that counseling is most successful when there is a collaborative relationship between the client and the counselor. Establishing a solid foundation built on mutual trust and acceptance is a necessary step with almost any theoretical perspective. Each client has their individual needs, so I believe in utilizing a multifaceted approach to therapy, which allows me to tailor a customized treatment using the most effective methods for the needs of each client. Client-centered therapy has influenced my theoretical perspective on counseling. For me, client-centered therapy means I recognize that my clients’ cultures, personalities, and mental health concerns all play a part in developing a successful treatment plan. Embracing the diversity in my clientele will allow me to create a safe space where I can offer unconditional positive regard to each individual.

It’s important to me that clients understand that our relationship is a collaborative team effort. My ultimate goal is to see my clients reach their full potential, and this starts with building a solid therapeutic alliance rooted in empathy, trust, and unconditional positive regard. I graduated with my MA in counseling from Marshall University in 2023. In my personal life I enjoy books, music, coloring, painting, and playing with my dog. I live in Mon Co. with my husband and our dog Pippa.
